Ramadan starts next Friday and ends the 18th of August. Having been over there a few times (once during the religious holiday) and also having access to military expectations/requirements, I figured I would serve as your guide to make sure that all my psychoti....I mean FuFriends are fully prepared.
Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar and lasts about 30 days and is based on the official sighting of the new moon. It is a time for Muslims to do meditation and spiritual purification. (NOT the kind of purification that Gallo is going to mention)
You can NOT:
eat, drink or smoke from sunrise to sunset (drunkenness is particularly offensive)
there will be shortened work hours (if you are a Government or State employee this means probably no work at all)
Meals will be eaten twice during hours or darkness. Most restaurants are closed during the day (so we will all be eating at Dud's). Although SOME coffee shops may remain open (for Postal's sake).
It is IMPORTANT to wear loose fitting, concealing, neat and conservative civilian attire. Women, who have reached puberty (shaving it all off doesn't count), shall wear pants or skirts that cover their knees. They shall also wear sleeved blouses that cover the elbows. Men, who have reached puberty (shaving it all off doesn't count), shall wear long trousers (this should apply to Drill all year). They should also wear shirts that cover the elbows. This clothing shall also be worn during physical activity (you runners are going to DIE).
If terrorist activity should break out, all bets are off and you must change into your Spiderman costume.
I expect to see ALL you FuFriends in PROPER attire on Monday July 23rd!!!!
Carry on.
