the fool
step right up and see the show
come all and see the clown
his silly face and stupid glow
all help to drag him down
watch his antics, quite the fool
this tragic show goes on
face of paint helps keep his cool
and hide his beaten frown
she's got no time to give you
no time for kind real words
unspoken things ring so true
for him they go unheard
he's so good with excuses
explains away the need
eachnight he still refuses
to see the things he's seeing
alone and sad he paints his face
puts on his bulbous nose
a broken heart right in it's place
beneath ill fitting clothes
push the tent flap to the side
make the entrance grand
floppy shoes, bowlegged stride
in candence to the band
and when the crowd's departed
crushed litter on the ground
alone he sits downhearted
the fool is still a clown
