I was a deputy sheriff for a couple of years and then was a fulltime ff/emt for 5 yrs. I then, was a fire inspector/investigator/instructor for 5 yrs. I transferred to EMS and was a paramedic for 15 yrs until I got injured on the job and was transferred to 911 communications (little over a yr) until I retired. During the times that I was on 24 hr shifts, I worked on my off days as a carpenter with my dad, until he died of colon cancer in Jan '98.
